For my birthday, Tim agreed to take me to Six Flags New England, about a 2 hr drive outside of Boston. Six Flags is basically a theme park full of rollercoasters and big rides. Bryn and Alev are visiting from NYC so we take them, and Enrique, with us to party on some awesome rides!!
Words are generally useless in describing rollercoasters so this is more of a picture and video blog... I do mention a lot of the elements of the rollercoasters so if you want to know what each is in more horrifying detail, check out examples in Wikipedia: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Roller_coaster_elements.
Ride 1: Batman - The Dark Knight. This ride features two corkscrews, one vertical loop, one dive loop and one zero g-roll. The elevation is almost 12 stories and we travel at a top speed of 55mph (88km/hr). Below is a photo of what it looks like - the big purple thing, and also two video Enrique took while we were on the ride. Enrique focuses the cameraon himself but if you want to see what we saw this is footage that someone else loaded onto youtube and it will give you a pretty good idea of what Tim had to go through: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ZlalbvGnHaU
Ride 2: The Mind Eraser. Ok so they call this one Mind Eraser for a reason. No videos on this one but here are the stats: close to 11 stories tall, travelling at a top speed of 55mph (88km/h). I can't even remember what is was like on this ride but it apparently sends you in a loop five different ways. It has an interlocking, inverse "Immelman" dive loop and you get spun around a tightly curved helix and descend into two consecutive corkscrews. Again from the same person who uploaded the previous video, to see what we saw: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=6RPMVyRXbeM
Ride 3: Bizzaro. We classify this ride as tamer than the first two because there aren't any loops. It's just big and fast and drops you plenty of times. Voted the #1 Steel Coaster in the world, the ride is 3.5 minutes long, 20 stories high and we travel at a top speed of 77mph or 123km/hr. Here's a photo of the ride and a video Tim takes of one of the carriages on it. But again, to see what we saw: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=O4-whsO9YZ0
So after riding Bizzaro, Tim gets quite ill. Despite the lack of loops, he goes quite pale, feels nauseous and needs to sit down. We suspect it's the ups and downs which get him. Either way, we take a little break from the crazy rides and jump on something more for the kids.
Ride 4: Blizzard River. A fun get wet if you're unlucky ride. Alev and I get sent under a small waterfall first and Bryn cracks up. Later, Bryn gets dunked under a much larger waterfall and exits the ride without a single dry spot on him. Unfortunately, Alev and Enrique who are sitting next to him also get half soaked due to some splash back.
Ride 5: Flashback. Our last and final coaster is a short and simple one. The rollercoaster drags you backwards first then shoots you forward through one cobra roll and one vertical loop. Pretty basic stuff, until you go through it one more time - backwards. It was a bit more mindboggling than we expected. Tim sat this one out but managed to take a good video of it. There is a bit of a pause in the middle as the rollercoaster drags us up a second time. If you want to see what we saw: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=6MChZQMjkyA
I do love six flags and Tim was a sport to at least try some of the rides =0) Until the next time we do something crazy again!
