NYC - day three

Today's itinerary proved to be no more forgiving than yesterday's itinerary. I have no one else to blame but myself.

We kick off slightly later than yesterday and congregate at a little bakery near the Rockefeller Plaza called the 'Magnolia Bakery'. The bakery has four branches but it is the original bakery that is credited with the start of the cupcake craze of the 90s. It was usually open until midnight, would still have people waiting in lines to buy their products, each of whom was only allowed to purchase a maximum of 12 cupcakes. We didn't try to buy more than 12 but I wouldn't doubt the possibility that we would not have been allowed. It was 9.30am and the place was already packed.

After purchasing our cupcakes, which was only to be consumed later in the afternoon, we make our way around the Rockefeller Plaza to the Atlas statue and St Patrick's Cathedral - a large gothic style cathederal in the middle of New York City which can house 2,500 people.

All the lunging in front of the statue builds up an appetite and soon it's off to Chinatown for Yum Cha, with Enrique, our yum cha virgin in tow. Yum cha is quickly followed by a subway to Battery Park and a long queue to board a boat to Liberty Island - silly hats included - where we get up close and personal with the lady herself.

After climbing 156 steps to the top of the pedestal on which the lady stands (we're not allowed up to the crown - those tickets are sold out till November!), we head back to the mainland, all of us catching some shut eye from the heat that has tired us out.

Next up was a stroll across the famous Brooklyn Bridge we hot tail it to New York's famous 24 hour area, the Meatpacking District in Chelsea, for some dinner at Spice Market. What is amazing around the Meatpacking District is a new park called the High Line. The High Line is basically stretch of elevated subway tracks which are no longer in use that have been converted to an elevated park area.

Now it's time for bed to prepare for an early start at the Empire State Building!!
