Upon arriving, the bus drops us off in the middle of the hustle and bustle of midtown New York and make our way to our aptly named accomodation - The Big Apple Hostel, just one block from Times Square.
After checking in, we explore Times Square, visiting the Hershery's Chocolate Store and the only surviving Toys R' Us. We then head to Bubba Gump - a Forest Gump themed restaurant from the movie..... Forest Gump. We order our food and drink and are then subjected to some grueling movie trivia from our waitress. We prevail and are allowed to eat. After dinner, we watch a play called 'Trust', featuring our favourite 'Scrubs' doctor, JD. The night is then topped off by a visit to the revolving bar and restaurant in the Marriot Times Square, The View.
The next morning, we get an early start, making our way to a little place called 'Alice's Tea Cup: Chapter II". It's a quaint little shop with an incredibly LARGE tea list. It basically had the tea list equivalent of a wine bar's wine list. The food here is freshly prepared and we order a mixture of crepes, scones and granola with super fresh berries.
Next up, we go to the financial district to see the Wall Street Bull and the NYSE. We even make the time to pop into Tiffany's =0). After Wall St, we grab a bite at Grand Central Station and then head to the United Nations. I send a few postcards from "International Land".
After the UN, we head to my favourite, non-food related place in NYC - the MET. Didn't bother taking many photos here as many of the exhibits, you need to be there to really experience it.
After the MET, we make our way to the final stop of the day. Dinner. As we leave the MET, we see these wannabe cyclos (see photo below. See real cyclos here) and decide to take the to dinner to save us walking. It was a fun ride weaving through the traffic of NYC, Mat and Enrique's cyclo opting to cut off a police car mid way.
Dinner is at "Serendipity 3". A cafe famous for it's gigantuan deserts and for appearing in the movie, Serendipity. We enjoy our dinner "american-style", i.e. large and make sure to leave room for desert. All in a tourists day. And that's just days one and a half!
