While this is the last day of our holidays, it is a bittersweet time as Tim and I have been waiting for this day to come. On our last visit to Thailand, Tim and I missed out on visiting the famed Tiger Temple but we weren't going to miss out this time.
We are picked up by our tour leader at 5am. Dozy-eyed, we fall asleep in the car almost instantly as we made our 2 hour journey to see the monks and the tigers.
On arrival at the temple, we are instructed on how to greet the monks when they arrive back from their visit to the markets. We take off our shoes and sunglasses, and give them food and bow.
Once they monks have left, we make our way into the Temple proper where our first task is to feed the tiger cubs. These cubs are up to two months old and actually cry like babies. But they are soft and furry and cute nonetheless and very very warm to the touch.
Task two is to exercise, wash and feed the cubs which are slightly older. These cubs were between 8 and 11 months. Exercise and play time are pretty synonomus and toys were make up of inflated garbage bags and empty plastic bottles tied to the end of a bamboo pole. These tigers are still considered cubs but notice it's height compared to Tim when it's doing a leap. The washing and the feeding was definately a highlight... only cool once the tigers have tired out!
Next we get our photos taken with the full grown tigers before taking them for a little stroll around the compound. These tigers are..... quite large.
Finally, the last activity of the day is sitting back and watching the trainers exercise the fully grown tigers, after which we have a 2 hour drive to the airport where we head home :(
