After Siem Reap, we travel to Battambang. A small town in Cambodia and also the hometown of our Cambodia Tour Leader, Jay.
It is here in Battambang that we embark on our next motorcycle tour. This one is a short ride to the "Bamboo Train". The bamboo train is a flat square that sits on two axels, both of which have been recycled from old tanks used during the war. We travel down the same tracks used by the locals to travel from Siem Reap and Phenom Phen.
The tracks are uneven and we bolt around a lot. But we do have to be grateful for the uneveness as it is what makes the transport train, as well as other bamboo trains, move much slower. This ensures that both parties can stop on time to avoid certain death.
We ride the train through the fields, ducking to avoid being taken out by branches and the like. We come to a stop point, which is clearly frequented by tourists, as the locals have set up shop and sell drinks and snacks as tourists stop for a quick break before moving on.
That night, we head to the home of a local family, where some of the others of the group opted for a cooking class instead of the ride on the bamboo train. It is here that we enjoy our last Cambodia meal, which is also by far, the best.
The next morning, we travel by bus to the Cambodia-Thailand border. It's a hot day, like every other, and we need to walk across the border and stand in line to wait for our turn to be processed through Thai immigration. Lucky for us, Intrepid have organised for our lugguage to be taken care of so that we do not have to carry it across ourselves.
After dinner, it was a quick swing around the night markets to see what last minute bargains could be found and then back to the hotel for a good night's sleep, before tomorrow's tour of the TIGER TEMPLE!
